Swimming

Swimming was an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarship sport from 1981 to 2013.

The residential swimming program for able bodied athletes at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) opened in 1981 and was one of the inaugural eight AIS sports.

The program's aim was to promote swimming excellence and provide opportunities for each of its elite, or emerging elite athletes to follow both a sporting and academic or working career.

The AIS / Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) camps-based swimming program was created in partnership with the APC in 2003 for senior elite athletes.

During 2013, the AIS transitioned out of athlete scholarships and sport programs. Responsibility for coaches, athletes and programs was transferred to the principal National Sporting Organisation for swimming at the time.
