Entries are now open for sporting journalism’s night of nights, the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Media Awards.
With a 24-year history, the preeminent awards recognise excellence in sports media.
Australian media outlets, sporting clubs and organisations are encouraged to enter their best work with 12 categories available spanning print, digital, audio, video, broadcast, social media and photography.
Returning this year is the incredibly popular sports documentary award, while the rural and regional award has been tweaked.
The ‘best coverage of local and community sport’ award recognises exceptional coverage of sport at the local and community level, which remains the heartbeat of our sporting culture and is open to all media regardless of location.
Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural ‘Rising Star’ award, which was awarded to the Nine Network’s and Australia’s most decorated female Paralympian Ellie Cole, the Media Awards will once again recognise an up-and-comer journalist.
Selected from our pool of finalists, this honour is reserved for those aged 30 and under or those who are new to the industry.
Media can enter at ascmediaawards.awardsplatform.com, opens in a new tab from today until Friday 31 October 2025.
ASC CEO Kieren Perkins OAM says the Media Awards continue to be a pivotal event for the sector.
“Sport is richer for the stories you tell,” he said.
“Your storytelling connects and inspires Australians and investigates the issues that matter. This event is an opportunity for the sector to come together to reflect and celebrate the year that was in sport and to recognise the contributions of those involved in showcasing the power of sport to unite and inspire us to get involved.
“Whether you are a seasoned professional or just starting out in the industry, if you are creating work about sport, there is a category for you to enter.”
Finalists in the ASC Media Awards will be announced in December and invited to a gala dinner in Sydney in February 2026.
All entries for this year’s awards must have been published during the qualifying period, from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2025.
