Getting to know who you already have in your club means you can identify opportunities to recruit volunteers and helpers to roles, tasks or a roster to support the day-to-day operations.

Many people are happy to put their hand up if asked, provided with support and can contribute in a manner that is tailored to their circumstances.

Showcase that your club is run by volunteers

From the moment people engage with your club, showcase the important role volunteers play in managing your club or organisation. Make sure to include language that supports flexibility, 'helping out' and small task or roster-based activities to ensure new volunteers feel supported and confident in taking on a new activity.

Ways you can showcase the valuable role of volunteers:

• Include on a participants registration form
• Include a small paragraph in club welcome packs
• Registration days or meet the coach sessions with parents

Utilising player registration platforms to find volunteers

Many player registration platforms have the ability to ask information and identify possible new volunteers. Consider questions such as:

• Would you be happy to help out for an hour here and there to support the club?
• Would you be happy to jump into an activity to support with training once in a while?
• Do you have an interest or skillset that the club could utilise?

An annual club survey can be a great tool in reviewing the season and planning for the year ahead. This can be conducted for all areas of your club and to understand your player, supporter and volunteer experiences.
