Mindtraps
Mindtraps are mental shortcuts that can make it harder to respond well in complex situations. This animation explores 2 common Mindtraps - simple stories and ego - and the questions and habits that can help you notice, unlock and move beyond them. Note the other 3 Mindtraps – rightness, agreement and control – are explored in the Mindtraps User Guide at the end of this page.
What you will learn
Complex situations can trigger instinctive thinking patterns that feel helpful at first but may lead to unhelpful choices or actions. The Mindtraps model helps you recognise when your thinking is becoming too narrow, certain or self-protective, so you can pause, stay curious and choose a more helpful response.
This animation describes:
- What Mindtraps are and why everyone is susceptible to them.
- How simple stories can limit curiosity and oversimplify complex people or situations.
- How ego can make it harder to stay open to growth, feedback and change.
- Questions and habits that can help you notice and unlock these Mindtraps.
