Competitors
When officiating competitors, it’s important recognise that, while competing in their sport is important to them, they will also have other motivations and individual needs. Understanding these and adapting your approach can facilitate safe, inclusive and enjoyable environments for all participants.
Characteristics of competitors
Competitors have skills and experience in the sport. They seek to continually improve and perform at their best. Competitors may be on a pathway toward high performance, or they may reach their peak at regional, state or national level.
How officials can support competitors
Support optimal environments for competitors by consistently applying the rules, ensuring smooth flow of the competition and communicating effectively.
Where appropriate, provide guidance and education on nuances and how to apply the rules, as they apply to the competition environment.
