Who is this action plan for?

Across Australia, people contribute to a broad range of sports across country towns, remote communities, suburbs and big cities. That reach is a big part of what makes sport volunteering special. It is also why no single organisation can, or should, control how sport volunteering works across the whole system.

The ASC has an important role in stewarding this Action Plan and bringing the sport sector together around a shared national direction and can help kickstart action. But lasting change will depend on many people and organisations across the sports system seeing where they fit and playing their part.

The roles below can help readers see where they fit and how they can help to bring the Plan to life:

  • The Adopter

Those who make volunteering happen every day, such as clubs, committees, coaches, officials & volunteers

  • The Advocate

Those who can surface what's working, what's getting in the way, and what volunteers need most.

  • The Connector

Those who can link people, organisations and opportunities across sport and community

  • The Enabler

Those who can create or improve the tools, training and services that clubs rely on

  • The Leader

Those who can set direction, coordinate effort and bring the sector together

  • The Shaper

Those who can influence policy, funding and settings

  • The Translator

Those who can turn broad priorities into guidance that fits a sport, place or community

  • Find where you fit...

Use these roles to guide where you or your organisation can contribute to the actions in this plan

It is important to remember that all of the roles above are flexible: an organisation may lead one action, enable or connect others on another, and advocate or translate support elsewhere.
